Crate Shop

Minnesota Street Project Art Services features a full service, on-site Crate Shop, offering museum-quality custom artwork crating and packing solutions.

Our Crate Shop is conveniently located on the Minnesota Street Project contemporary arts campus, inside the museum-quality conditioned storage facilities we are known for.

As with all services offered by Minnesota Street Project Art Services, the mission of the Crate Shop is support for overall collection care. This means that our services around crating are designed not only to support safe and secure artwork transportation, but also to create appropriate packing for long-term storage and conservation.

Offerings include:

Museum Crate

Museum crates offer the most protection inside and out. This crate type absorbs low-level vibration, is built to protect against higher impact shock, and each crate is sealed to protect against water. They can withstand long-distance travel and are a great investment to keep artwork safe in transit as well as in storage.

Crate construction:

  • Built with plywood, with pine battons, skids, and bolt closures
  • Insulated, with a silicone sealed, gasketed lid; 2″ of ethafoam

Two-Way Crate

Our standard multi-use crate to protect artworks traveling near and far. The added protection of the battens allow this crate to be used multiple times in transport and is a fantastic storage option for high-value works.

Crate construction:

  • Built with plywood, with pine battons, skids, and handles
  • Interiors are packed with 2″ ethafoam and braced when required

One-Way Crate

Our one-way crates offer a safe and economical crating solution for shipping and storage. We recommend this crate for local and domestic shipping.

Crate construction:

  • Built with plywood, with skids and handles
  • Interiors are packed with 2″ ethafoam and custom braces when required

Museum Travel Frame

Museum travel frames can be used alone, when traveling locally on a Fine Art Shuttle, or can be packed inside of a two-way or museum crate for added security and protection. Museum travel frames fully enclose the work for safe movement and storage.

Travel Frame construction:

  • Made with poplar and coroplast, with gasketed lids and handles
  • Designed so artworks can either be pressure fit or oz-clipped in for full suspension

Gallery Travel Frame

Gallery travel frames are a great cost-effective option for wall hanging works to travel locally on a Fine Art Shuttle without a crate, or can be packed inside our one-way or two-way crates for added protection.

Travel Frame construction:

  • Made with poplar slats and cardboard, with handles
  • Designed so artworks can be oz-clipped in for full suspension

Other Crate Shop offerings:

  • Slat crates
  • Sleds
  • Pallets
  • Pedestals
  • Custom fabrication
